Orientation Held for Florida International University Wertheim College of Medicine Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP Class of 2015
On Sunday, August 21, 2011, The FIU held an orientation session and reception at the Modesto Maidique Campus for the Florida International University Wertheim College of Medicine Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP Class of 2015.
Eighty-two new students were welcomed into the program; almost double the amount of new students as the university's first class, 2013, which in 2009 inaugurated 43 students.
Green Family Foundation President Kimberly Green was the keynote speaker for the event. FIU's President Mark B. Rosenberg and Provost & Executive Vice President Douglas L. Wartzok were also on hand to welcome the new class.

8th Annual Back to School Event in Little Haiti
There were smiles and laughter aplenty on August 12, 2011 when The Little Haiti Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) Office and the Little Haiti Optimist Club held the 8th Annual Back to School event at the Emmanuel "Manno" Sanon Soccer Park on NE 2nd avenue and 63rd street.
One thousand backpacks and school supplies were given away to children who attended the event. The Green Family Foundation sponsored the event, as we have for the past eight years.
Besides the giveaways, the event featured food and refreshments for everyone, bounce houses, and live entertainment on the WEDR-FM 99 soundstage. GFF and members of the MLK (Moving the Lives of Kids) Little Haiti Community Mural Project teamed up to offer face painting for all the kids who wanted it.
