Visionaries in Philanthropy

Steven J. Green and his wife, Dorothea, founded the Green Family Foundation in 1991 to support initiatives in HIV/AIDS education, arts access, youth programs, homelessness, disaster relief, and community outreach.
Dorothea Green, a former Miss USA with a lifelong passion for the arts, created the Steven and Dorothea Green Critics’ Lecture Series at Florida International University and authored My World by Water, a travel memoir benefiting the University of Miami’s Department of Pediatrics. She serves on the board of Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) championing cultural and educational causes.
Steven J. Green, former chairman and CEO of Samsonite Corporation, was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Singapore in 1998. During his tenure, he strengthened U.S.-Singapore relations in economic development, intellectual property, and security while founding Friendship Works, a model program promoting corporate philanthropy in education and healthcare.
In addition to leading the foundation, Ambassador Green has been active in civic initiatives, serving as trustee and program chair for organizations like the Children’s Health Fund, United Way, and the U.S. Olympic Committee. His contributions include founding the State Department Award and supporting disaster relief through a transformational gift to the American Red Cross.
The Greens have received numerous accolades, including the United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Award for Outstanding Philanthropy. Together, they have raised two daughters. Andrea, an attorney, is committed to animal welfare and Kimberly serves as President of the Green Family Foundation, furthering its mission to create lasting social impact.
