Ten public servants who work at various jobs around the county were honored at a banquet Monday night as winners of the Green Family Foundation United Way American Values Awards. The awards carry a prize of $5,000 and recognize public servants for exceptional public service outside their jobs.
The honorees, whom keynote speaker Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle called ``heroes who quietly move our world forward,'' included Oria Barbara Acebal of Allapattah, a secretary for the IRS; and Jo Ann Jones of North Miami, teacher at Miami Central Senior High.
