JUANES AND BRIAN STOKES MITCHELL DAZZLE GUESTS AT 13TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT: MIAMI FUSION

2019 Gala is one of most successful in Arsht Center history! Proceeds support the Center’s arts education and community programs, which enrich the lives of people of all ages in South Florida

Miami, FL – April 10, 2019 – On Saturday, April 6, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) hosted its 13th Annual Gala with a momentous celebration. A major highlight of the evening was the announcement by Gala Co-Chair and Green Family Foundation President Dr. Kimberly Green that the foundation awarded a $2.5 million grant to support the Arsht Center’s free arts education programs. In recognition of the Greens’ generous gift, the 2,400-seat auditorium inside the Ziff Ballet Opera House was named in honor of Kimberly’s mother, Dorothea Green, who is a passionate, lifelong supporter of the arts. “I am so proud that this theater, where we celebrate the arts, now bears Dorothea Green’s name,” said Adrienne Arsht, founding chairman of the Adrienne Arsht Center Foundation. “The Greens have given an important gift to our community.”

“The Green Family Foundation believes in the arts as a powerful force that should be a part of every childhood in Miami,” said Kimberly Green, who also is a member of the Adrienne Arsht Center Foundation Board. “Our investment in the Arsht Center will enable the Center to increase its impact on local students and work even harder to be inclusive. We urge others to join us in supporting that effort. Think of all those creative, young minds and what they mean for Miami’s future.”
Nearly 400 South Florida arts and culture supporters, community leaders and philanthropists attended the Arsht Center’s 13th Annual Gala, which honored Arnold W. Donald, Chief Executive Officer of Carnival Corporation & PLC, in recognition of Carnival’s long history as a founding donor of the Center and Donald’s commitment to inspiring our community.

Close to $1 million was raised by the gala, with proceeds supporting the Adrienne Arsht Center’s arts education programs, which annually serve more than 55,000 students of all ages throughout Miami-Dade County.

The event featured a welcome cocktail reception with Pommery champagne and Bacardi cocktails followed by the Center’s star-studded 13th Anniversary Concert: Miami Fusion which was open to the general public for all local music lovers to enjoy. The concert, produced by the Adrienne Arsht Center with Nouveau Productions, featured unforgettable performances by multi Grammy Award-winning sensation Juanes and Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Immediately after the concert, Gala guests enjoyed a New Orleans-themed gourmet dinner directly on the Ziff Ballet Opera House’s Lynn Wolfson Stage crafted by James Beard Award finalist and Arsht Center Culinary Director Brad Kilgore of BRAVA! By Brad Kilgore with Sterling Vineyards wines. Meanwhile, concertgoers continued the festivities at Party on the Plaza, a joyous and vibrant after-party celebrating Miami’s Caribbean carnival traditions on the Center’s Thomson Plaza for the Arts. Chaired by South Florida philanthropists Marlon and Carla Hill, the event was emceed by Giselle “The Wassi One” Blanche and featured the best of Miami-based, Caribbean entertainment, including DJs International Stephen and Nickymix – all in front of the Center’s iconic Carnival Tower. Proceeds from the public after-party supported the Arsht Center’s Miami Diaspora Fund, which supports the commissioning and presenting of multicultural artists.

The Gala’s Honorary Chair was Adrienne Arsht, the Center’s name benefactor. Gala Chairs were Tony & Conchi Argiz; and Ira D. & Carole Hall.
